Monterey Real Estate

Whether you want to find Monterey real estate for your primary residence, a vacation home or investment property, you may be interested in this overview of the local housing market.

Once the capital of early California, Monterey's population is only around 28,000.

The Monterey Peninsula contains some of the most scenic areas of the California Central Coast. Since it has hilly terrain and sits on a peninsula surrounded on three sides by water, there's lots of opportunities for ocean views.

As of February 2011, the median sales price according to Zillow.com is right around $520,000. The cost of living on the Monterey Peninsula is quite high due to its desirability and location.

Entry level homes tend to be in the New Monterey or Sunbelt areas. Head for the hills around downtown, or the Skyline Forest or Jacks Peak neighborhoods for the more expensive homes.

Monterey itself is populated with many homes of Spanish adobe style or Monterey Colonial style. Most of these homes were built in the early 1900s, but even new homes have this Spanish and Mediterranean style. Victorians are prevalent as well near the downtown area.
