In summer and fall, blue whales and humpbacks migrate to Monterey Bay to feed on their favorite dishes: krill and anchovies. Other sightings possible in summer and fall include Fin Whales, Killer Whales and Minke Whales.

The gray whales are most often seen during their migration in winter and spring.

Dolphins and porpoises can be sighted year round, along with seals, sea otters and sea lions.

The following companies offer whale watching trips:

Randy's Fishing Trips will take up to 48 passengers on a two hour whale watching cruise, narrated by a marine biologist. They are located at 66 Old Fisherman's Wharf. Call 831-372-7440.

Monterey Whale Watching offers three hour tours. They use sonar equipment to help find the watery beasts. This company is found at 96 Old Fisherman's Wharf #1. Call 831-372-2203.

Monterey Bay Whale Watch has a daily morning trip from May through mid December. It generally lasts 4 to 5 hours. From May through October, there is an additional afternoon trip that lasts about 3-4 hours. November to mid December has afternoon trips on weekends only. They're located at 84 Old Fisherman's Wharf.
