Capitola California

A charming, small village atmosphere makes Capitola California an idyllic place for a day trip from
Monterey California.
Its located about 37 miles north of Monterey, just south of the larger beach town of
Santa Cruz
off of Highway 101. The area is prime California beauty, from redwood forests in the Santa Cruz Mountains, to the blue Monterey Bay stretched out beyond.
Capitola actually is one of California's oldest seaside resorts. Vacationers would come visit here back in the late 1800's. The shops and eateries are within walking distance of the picturesque little beach.
The beach itself is protected by bluffs, so the waves are relatively tame. You can eat at one of the modest oceanview restaurants or just picnic at the beach.

The scenic little hotel at the north end of the beach is the historical Capitola Venetian Hotel and it has suites with balconies and fireplaces. Call 831-476-6471.
For a unique dining experience, Shadowbrook is reached by a private tram down a steep hill. Call 831-475-1222 for more information on this restaurant.
History buffs may want to visit the petite Capitola Historical Museum, located at 410 Capitola Avenue. For more info on their current exhibit, call 831-464-0322.
Camping is available at New Brighton State Beach at 1500 Park Avenue. Call 800-444-7275 for reservations.
