Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park Campground
Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park Campground is located about 26 miles south of Carmel. There are around 1000 acres of redwood tree groves, plus chapparal, sycamore trees and oak trees, along with the Big Sur River running through.
The park has cottages as well as 218 campsites, but there are no hookups for RVs. There are lockers for food. Amenities include restrooms, picnic areas, showers and a laundry. There's also a small grocery store, a restaurant and even a gift shop.
The rangers provide a campfire program in the summer, and there are docent guided nature walks as well. There's also a self-guided nature trail loop.
No fishing is allowed in the river, but there are places to swim. Hiking trails are nearby and you can view Pfeiffer Falls.
A mile south of the entrance is Sycamore Road. About 2 miles down this road is Pfeiffer Beach, which is well worth the trip. Crashing surf, rock formations or sea stacks out in the water, shorebirds and a stream all make for some fabulous scenery.
There is a parking fee and toilets at this beach. Click on
