Big Sur Real Estate
The interesting thing about Big Sur real estate is that most of it is tucked away out of sight, so it's hard to know what it really consists of without thorough exploration or being shown around by an agent. At least, with the internet, you can look at houses for sale online to get some idea. Though it is quite a tourist destination, the local population is under 1000. Of course, there isn't much in the way of jobs, and fires tend to plague the area, but you'd be hard pressed to find more spectacular scenery anywhere. That is probably why artists, writers, poets and assorted eclectic thinkers have always been drawn here. In Jack London's "Valley Of The Moon", Billy and Saxon spend some time tramping through the Big Sur area on their quest for the perfect spot on which to build their farm. That was before Highway 1 was built, so they had to forego it's extreme beauty because it was just too remote for them to sell their farm products and make a living. Driving through
Big Sur, California,
you aren't likely to see many of the homes, as most are down secluded back roads, on cliffs and deep in the forest and canyons. It's a rugged land not meant for the faint of heart, yet it's natural beauty tugs at the romantic soul. Highway 1 is the primary road in and out of Big Sur, and it winds along between the mountains and the sea, from the Monterey Peninsula to San Simeon in the south.
