Asilomar Conference Center

The very unique Asilomar Conference Grounds is situated on the border of Pacific Grove and Carmel on the Monterey Peninsula. It is set back in the trees, and a trail through the sand dunes leads to the beach.

Many of the buildings were designed by architect Julia Morgan in Arts & Crafts style in the early 1900's and are now considered a National Historic Landmark. Many conferences and retreats are held at this beach resort due to its beautiful natural setting, but it is also popular for weddings, groups, and families on vacation.

The 107 acres of the property are part of the California State Park system, and it fronts the beach, where the water is bluer than blue and the sand incredibly white.

It's a really peaceful setting, and even if you are not staying here, you can come enjoy the boardwalk which winds through the sand dunes from this rustic resort to the beach.

The Rooms
There are standard rooms, historic rooms and guest suites available. Some have kitchenettes or private decks. There is a dining hall where you can get lunch and dinner for an extra fee, but breakfast is included. The historic buildings contain a main lounge area shared with other guests, for sitting by the fire and reading. The standard room buildings are more modernized. The suites and cottages hold up to eight guests.

Amenities
There is a heated pool, volleyball courts and ping pong. Business services are available in the business center. There's also a gift shop. There are no TV's at Asilomar, so you can truly enjoy the retreat like experience.

Asilomar State Beach

The Beach
Though popular for surfing, it's not really a good swimming beach, and very cold. But it's excellent for enjoying the beauty, picnicking, kite flying or exploring the tide pools. You may get lucky and see sea lions, sea otters or harbor seals.

Activities
You really need never leave the grounds for a relaxing vacation or business trip, but you are so close to Carmel, with it's shops and galleries. And there are plenty of things to do in Monterey as well.
